Maurice Torres was born in Newark, New Jersey. He migrated
all over New Jersey before finally settling in Summit, NJ with his father, and
six siblings. He developed a unique and diverse appreciation for all music
genres as a result of his upbringing in numerous demographic communities.
As a child, Maurice would spend his allowance and lunch
money on tapes and CDs of various DJs and use them to study various blends and
mixing styles. By the time Maurice was in high school, he was not only a
basketball player and a scholar student; he was a known local DJ. He DJ’ed
private parties at friends homes whenever he wasn’t playing basketball. In
doing so, he became very familiar with Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, 90s, Reggae and
Jersey (Baltimore) Club.
In 2002, Maurice met Courtney W. Benjamin (Founder and
Owner of Big Man Entertainment LLC.) while sharpening his basketball skills at
the local YMCA. He expressed his interest in DJing and his love for
music. He immediately became a student of Courtney as he studied all aspects
different music genes, equipment and sound systems. A few months later, Maurice
became an official DJ of Big Man Entertainment LLC.
Upon graduation of high school, Maurice enrolled into
Montclair State University on a full academic scholarship as a student athlete.
Maurice was a two-year captain of the Montclair State University’s Men’s
Basketball Team. As a freshman, Maurice set numerous records on the basketball
court. Because of his busy schedule with basketball and college academics,
Maurice made a huge decision to put DJing on hold as he concentrated on college
athletics and academics. He continued to keep in touch with Courtney, and also
stayed current with all musical genres releases. On occasion, he DJ’ed small
college parties to fulfill the addiction to the DJ art form.
In 2009, Maurice graduated with a degree in Finance. He
currently works in Finance for a top Fortune 500 Company. He also is the
Client Relations Representative and DJ for Big Man Entertainment. Maurice is
committed progress, and continues to seek the necessary education and training
to achieve success and "progress."
